Like I said before I would stay away from Spanish M1916 Mausers 7.This past weekend I picked up a nice addition to my 7.62 NATO Mauser collection at the Hattiesburg, MS gun show. The FR-8 rifles were converted from Spanish M1943 Mausers that have the standard M98 action strong enough to handle 7.62 ammo. This action has only two instead of three lugs on the bolt. You may be thinking of the Spanish FR-7 which was developed using the 1916 Mauser actions. Spanish FR-8 rifles are fine shooting NATO 7.62x51 Make your own informed decisions, but in a pre '98 design Mauser I prefer 7x57. Some of the importers proofed them, but they are weaker, and lack the saftey features in case of burst case. Dimentionally identical to 7.62 NATO, but loaded to lower pressures for their 1st gen CTME ( H&K pattern) rifles. The FR-8s were intended to use their own 7.62 CTME rounds.
